In Acts chapter 1 there are two promises given
One: "The Promise of the Father" -- The promise of power -- The Holy Spirit Two: Jesus will certainly return Two men in white apparel came and asked the disciples why they stood gazing towards heaven...they were supposed to get busy. There was purpose for the disciples on earth. Jesus left His followers here. We have been left here. We are, as Psalm 37 says it, to "dwell in the land." Our two comforts are that God is with us (in the Holy Spirit) and that He is coming back for us. In the meantime, we have a harvest to reap, souls to win, the gospel to share, hearts to reach, testimonies to shine, love to offer, a King to announce, a Shepherd to follow, and time to invest. Turn your gaze to the lost or to your bro/sis in Christ, and be a blessing. In the power of the Spirit, and the confidence we have of Christ's return, may we share God's message of redemption and restoration to the world...while we are still here. Opinion: What the NFL debacle says about men... The National Football League has been locked in a labor dispute with its referees. So this summer the league hired replacement officials to manage its games. For three weeks these inexperienced refs bumbled their way through 47 games, getting most of the calls right. But that changed on Monday night in front of a national television audience. The refs blew a huge call on the final play of the game and robbed one of America’s most popular teams of a hard-fought victory. The reaction from fans, pundits and fellow athletes was swift and furious. Normally neutral commentators reacted with disbelief and scorn. ESPN’s SportsCenter set an all-time ratings record as incredulous fans tried to make sense of this debacle. Facebook was alight with fans vowing not to watch NFL games until the real refs return. Athletes who are normally restrained in their tweets exploded in anger. Even President Obama questioned the call. |
